Just saying.

People must have came across the famous saying “The pen is mightier than the sword.”

But where does the pen lead to? The sword.

What if violence is the way? If the human race is so aggressive and furious towards the issues that violence has been used as a medium to invade and attack and build an empire, why not is it the way?  Is not that how we still have 7 continents and a 196 countries were formed? Is not that how we lost the cities and the statues and the will and the power? If pen is mightier, why do we still have arms and ammunition? To be able to strike back if someone attacks. Where does the mighty miracle of the pen goes then?

There is certainly no end to a discussion but there are conclusions built on the basis of guilt and justifications are held. It is not the right of any living being to take the life of another living being. But who gave the right to the people who enforce these rights on us? Many can say WW1 or WW2 was the reason. But are we all not still living on the same edge of extinction as we were before? Only the medium has changed. Earlier humans were killed with a sword and now they are killed in a very sophisticated way.

He neither opposes the strength of the pen nor does he want the serrated steel on his skin. But maybe the people who brought the pen to power were the people who were too scared to lift the sword. Pen tests strength but it does not tire you. It was the choice of the people who wanted to lift the sword, now the people in power of the pen have chosen the amount and type of independence we can have.

The origin of the quote –

“True, This! —
Beneath the rule of men entirely great
The pen is mightier than the sword. Behold
The arch-enchanters wand! — itself is nothing! —
But taking sorcery from the master-hand
To paralyse the Cæsars, and to strike
The loud earth breathless! — Take away the sword —
States can be saved without it!“
